Join us for our Signature Luncheon with the Indianapolis Zoo and hear from Michael Crowther!
Michael I. Crowther is a retired American zoological conservationist who served as president and chief executive officer of the Indianapolis Zoological Society, operator of the Indianapolis Zoo, from 2002 until his retirement in early 2020. Prior to joining the Indianapolis Zoo, he served as president and chief executive officer of the New Jersey State Aquarium.
Under Crowther's leadership, the zoo experienced significant growth, including a nearly 240% increase in annual revenue to over $32 million by 2019, a 700% expansion of its endowment fund to $41.1 million, and a 34% rise in attendance. He spearheaded a strategic shift toward conservation-focused initiatives, supporting global programs for species such as Amur tigers, cheetahs, gorillas, elephants, orangutans, and various parrots and macaws. In 2006, Crowther founded the biennial Indianapolis Prize, recognized as the world's leading award for animal conservation, which provides $250,000 to outstanding conservationists and has generated billions of media impressions while elevating Indianapolis as a hub for wildlife preservation efforts.
