Doug Goeppner is currently the ADA Coordinator and an Adjunct Social Work Instructor at the University of Southern Indiana in Evansville, Indiana, and has over 20 years of experience in supporting and advocating for compliance with state and federal disability rights laws. Doug has a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from the University of Southern Indiana, and a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. He is a member of the International Code Council, where he has earned his Certification as an Accessibility Inspector/Plans Examiner; and he is a Licensed Social Worker in the State of Indiana. He has presented on the ADA and other disability related issues at local and regional conferences and is a frequent guest lecturer in college classrooms. He also periodically provides consultative and training services to a variety of organizations in the community.
Three key goals of this presentation:
• To provide participants with an increased awareness of how the physical world can be experienced by persons with disabilities.
• To help participants to recognize that that one does not have to be an architect or ADA expert to recognize accessibility challenges in everyday settings, including in their own communities.
• To help participants to recognize that the issue of accessibility impacts everyone and that its importance is not limited only to persons with disabilities.
