Talent InSight 2030 Community Highlight – Carmel
While Hamilton County transitions away from “bedroom” community status in 2025, Carmel has been past that job growth point for some time. Housing Costs Have Risen Beyond the Means of Two-Thirds of Indiana’s Top Professions
To afford a modest, two-bedroom apartment at fair market rent in Indiana, full-time Hoosier workers need to earn $22.07 per hour. This is Indiana’s “2024 Housing Wage” according to Out of Reach, a report published jointly today by the National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC) and Prosperity Indiana.
Released annually, Out of Reach illuminates the gulf between wages and what people need to earn to afford their rent. The report reveals that affordable rental homes are out of reach for millions of low-wage workers and other families. The report’s “Housing Wage” is an estimate of the hourly wage full-time workers must earn to afford a rental home at fair market rent without spending more than 30% of their incomes. According to this year’s report, the national 2024 Housing Wage is $32.11 per hour for a modest two-bedroom rental home and $26.74 for a modest one-bedroom rental home.

Dawn Lang – Career Exploration Connector
When individuals and organizations unite as a single team, with a shared vision and mutual objectives, the potential for positive transformation knows no bounds. Building a team around school districts, chambers of commerce, community organizations, and civic leaders exemplifies the power of collaboration.
Community organizations, school districts, chambers of commerce, and civic leaders each bring unique strengths and perspectives to the table. Community organizations are often deeply rooted in local needs and possess a wealth of knowledge about the population they serve. School districts are pivotal in shaping the future workforce and citizens, providing education and opportunities for growth to young minds. Chambers of commerce are engines of economic development, fostering business growth and creating job opportunities. Civic leaders have the influence and insight necessary to drive policy changes and advocate for the community’s needs on a larger scale.

THE PURSUIT INSTITUTE
The Pursuit Institute is excited to announce Rebecca Johnson as the new Program Coordinator!
Rebecca is not just passionate about career coaching; she has built her career supporting students as they explore their interests and opportunities available to them.
“I have always been passionate about career coaching and helping students find their purpose. Even though I might have less interaction with students on a daily basis, I am excited to help build and provide excellent opportunities for students to learn and explore their interests and abilities. I have worked with the Pursuit Institute as a counselor at Hamilton Heights, but I am ready to narrow my focus and ensure that every student who chooses an TPI program has a positive learning experience,” said Rebecca.
Outside of work, Rebecca loves traveling, music, reading, and watching her daughter play softball and ride her horse.
Please help The Pursuit Institute welcome Rebecca!
